Playlist & then some

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

I wrote a playlist for The Gin Closet at Largehearted Boy.

Not the first time Tori Amos and Trent Reznor have rubbed shoulders…

I also got a shout-out from an international development economist with very particular taste.

And there’s a Yale profile and interview that begins:

“Jamison published a book called “The Gin Closet,” which, if you turn past the great looking mauve negligee on the cover, includes trailer parks, Reno, and a memorable trip to the gynecology office. Charles D’Ambrosio called it a “gorgeous first novel” and Vogue liked it too.

Leslie seems fierce, or maybe just accomplished? In one of her press photos she’s standing in front of two white trucks flying the flag of the People’s Republic of China … grrrrrr.”

Thumbs up from Buffalo

Karen Brady from Buffalo delivers what is quite possibly my favorite line from a review thus far:

“And who could miss the mother and daughter, Stella/Dora — as if Jamison were snacking on Stella d’Oro breakfast treats as she named her characters.”

The whole review is wonderful, actually.

Starts with:

“Life is raw in Leslie Jamison’s astonishing first novel, a story of love and ruin in the American West.”

And ends at:

“Yes, Leslie Jamison. Remember the name.”

From “Mrs. O’Dell Reads”: A review here and accompanying interview here.

Including bits on the difficulty of reading this book at night, sex as punishment, and the morals high school students might take from it.

From “Diary of an Eccentric”: another review here.
